Mass Media Effects

Being that the media is something that is viewed by many people, it is inevitable that it will have some kind of mass effect. One of the ways that media can have a mass effect is stereotyping. It is very common in sitcoms, crime shows, and even reality television to play upon stereotypes. People viewing these stereotypes play out on screen may in fact be influenced by the images they see and in turn take those stereotypes to be true.
One real life example of how media can have a mass effect is 9/11. On that horrific day, the pictures of the twin towers were viewed by millions of people across the world. The images evoked somewhat of a global mourning and are really engrained in the minds of the people that viewed them. Viewing the images of the attacks prompted thousands to donate money, and help out in one way or another.
These two examples illustrate both the good and bad mass effects that the media can have on a group of people.
