Fourth Estate

The press was referred to as the fourth estate. The first was clergy, the second was nobility and the third was common people. The fourth estate was stated to be “more important by far than them all”. All journalistic activities are referred to as the fourth estate. This is significant because all the previous estates referred to classifying people and the fourth estate was the press.
