The significance of the fourth estate is that it provides many Journalists working together as a group, which ultimately gives more support to the way communication works. The fourth estate is used as a way of mass communication as well. The messages journalists want to send can read various people with the technology we now have today. With newspapers, magazines, television and radio the fourth estate has made an impact on meeting many people's communication needs. It not only has helped journalists and the public press find a way to reach many individuals but it provides support within mass media. A quote that truly shows the importance of the fourth estate is, "Burke said that there were three Estates in Parliament, but in the Reporters Gallery yonder, there sat a fourth Estate more important far than they all" (http://www.campwood.com/fourthestate.htm). The fourth estate primarily helps 'function' democracy in our government.
