How is public relations used as a persuasive tool in communications?
Public relations is a field concerned with maintaining a public image for businesses, non-profit organizations, or high-profile people, such as celebrities or politicians.  Public relations is used as a persuasive tool in communications because it allows companies promote themselves through talking with other companies and portraying it to the media.  Public relations include promotion publicity, lobbying, fundraising, and crisis management.  When companies have problems or issues, public relations agents work to fix problems and they will hold press releases which become persuasive to the viewers.  An example of this is the BP Oil spill, when this happened the company’s PR agents had to come up with what to say and do at press releases and such so they can persuade the public on how they are going to fix the problem.

In what way do media and advertising work together?
Media and advertising work together because advertising agencies use the media to promote their ideas.  If you think of anywhere that there is media, advertising is probably involved; the Internet, television, radio, etc.  Facebook (a social media networking site) is a huge place where advertising is prevalent.  Media and advertising companies work together a great deal because they build off each other and gain from each other so easily.  If not for the media, advertising would be impossible.  Advertising needs the media to be able to portray their messages, and they need to be able to communicate with mass audiences.
