Why does economics drive most media?

Economics drive most media is an obvious phenomenon in today’s society. I think there are three major reasons leading to this phenomenon.

First of all, media become a channel for promoting the government. Some are subsidized by the government, for example, advertisement promoting new laws. Due to the open policy and market economics, media gradually become commercialized in recent decades.

Second, to cope with the demand of consumers, media companies have to produce programs or articles that can attract more audiences, which can make more profits. For example, television station produce more reality shows to attract audiences and earn more through the advertising and sponsors revenue in between the shows.

Besides, media companies face competition. To deal with it, media have to produce similar programs, advertisements or magazines with their competitors. Therefore, they can keep their target readers and audiences.

According to the abovementioned points, the quality of media may be affected by many factors. The most remarkable one is economics, which drive most media to change in order to cope with the market needs.
