The gatekeepers of news are those media sources that decide which information is provided to the general public. If a media giant does not want some information to come out to the general public, they have an incredible ablity to cover up and withhold this information from the public. Companies such as Disney own so many media sources that they have a huge amount of influence on the information that is presented to the public.
Investigative reporting is very helpful in informing the public to information that gatekeepers try to keep quiet. Public relations people do their best to cover up unglamerous information such as Tiger Wood's escapades. Without this investigative journalism, the public would continue to think that Tiger Woods has a squeaky clean image that his people want you to think.
