Mass Media: Ever Changing Entertainment
The Mass Media has been changing the ways in which people are entertained over the years. At the start of the movie industry, the public was entertained by black and white silent films. Today people are watching animated films in 3-D. With the new technologies advancing the film industry with films like Avatar, the days of the silent black and white are long gone. Similarly in television, the early shows of the "perfect" family are long gone and filled with shows like CSI. As technology changes so does the ways in which people entertain themselves. In order to maintain profits, the Mass Media has to follow suit and change with technology. Instead of buying books, many people are using e-readers, and instead of purchasing CDs people have begun to use music sites like Pandora, iTunes and YouTube. People are entertained by using hand held devices like smartphones and iPods, or even hand held video games. With the rise in technology use also came Applications for the iPod or other hand held devices like the newer tablets. By creating entertainment through the new technology people try to stay current. This could mean buying the newest model of smartphone, iPod or tablet. When people continue to buy the current technology it creates profits and reason to improve technology, continuing the cycle of ever-changing entertainment.
